Scrapped most of their locomotives and train cars after a hurricane 15 years ago and are still scrapping their collection today they just destroyed a UP locomotive. They are no friends of the railroad preservation community.

Pretty outdated exhibits. But if you are a real train enthusiast like my friend you will love it.

Visiting this museum is a great option if you are a fan of trains, their history or simply to spend a pleasant time with your family. There are a variety of rooms and in one of them there is a simulator, to easily experience what it is like to drive a train. You can enter the cars of the models on display and observe their interior design.

What a lovely Railroad Museum. For a Saturday it was not busy...but it's well layed out and the range of exhibitions is great. Lady at the entrance desk was welcoming and polite and told us everything we needed to know. We managed to even ride an open caboose on a long stretch along the cruise terminals. Loved everything about this place. Ate from the concession on site. Cheap and cheerful and delicious..again super friendly staff and decent prices.

After we spent a considerable time here, it was close to the historic street cars that go around Galveston.

If you love trains, go for it...

The whole family loved this museum! Nothing like being able to step back in time and see and touch things you’ve only seen in movies. My favorite was a car that we couldn’t go into but it unfortunately had a broken window and I could reach my phone up to get a glimpse. I can only imagine the stories and history that are in these beautiful railroad cars.

The Galveston Railroad Museum offers a fascinating glimpse into a significant piece of American history. With its impressive collection of trains and locomotives, it's a must-visit for anyone interested in transportation and the evolution of rail travel.

Walking through the museum is like stepping back in time, allowing you to appreciate the sheer scale and ingenuity of these historical machines. The train simulator, while perhaps not the most technologically advanced, is made enjoyable by the enthusiastic operator, who adds a personal touch to the experience.

It's worth noting that the museum's environment can be a bit challenging for those with respiratory issues or allergies to dust and humidity. However, the historical significance of the exhibits more than compensates for this minor drawback.

One of the museum's hidden gems is "Scooter," an elderly orange cat who often graces visitors with his presence. If you're fortunate, you might find him napping peacefully in one of the train cars. And if you're truly blessed, he might even allow you the rare privilege of petting his belly! This unexpected encounter adds a delightful and memorable element to the museum experience.

Overall, the Galveston Railroad Museum offers a captivating and educational journey through railroad history. Despite the potential environmental challenges, the sheer volume of historical artifacts and the chance to meet "Scooter" make it a worthwhile visit.

I was brought by family. I was not excited to visit. Once inside and started exploring it was like a visit to the past. It was fun and I am not a train enthusiast. I explored all the trains, exhibits, and displays. The phone booth area has a nice surprise. It’s the booth next to the entrance doorway. There are some nice Art Deco posters, furniture, posters and a train.
