    What makes it fun

For a date that will reel in romance, Gaido's Seafood Restaurant offers a shore thing. Established in 1911, this historic gem combines classic elegance with coastal charm. Gaido's menu is filled with seafood delights, like the Jazz Martini (a delightful mix of cocktail shrimp and crab meat tossed with avocados and hearts of palm), premium gulf shrimp, red snapper, fried catfish, and more. Gaido's has been a Galveston staple for over 100 years and it's no wonder why with a delicious menu and romantic ambiance.

Purchased a King Size single bed 2nd floor beachfront room for my pregnant wife and I's last vacation before the baby is born. We checked in and went to the room, the front desk didn't tell us anything but instead we had two full sized beds instead. Also the room stank of mildew enough to make my eyes water. Called the front desk to ask what was going on, initially got told we didn't book a king room. Luckily I had the receipt still that explicitly said so, front desk talked to the manager and told us they could see we had booked the king but that room became unavailable because "something was wrong with the roof". She offered us a room on the first floor, same price. My wife decided to try to make it work with the smaller beds rather than pack all of our things and move it.
Within ten minutes my eyes and nose were getting worse and my wife noticed the table was sticky and smelled sour. I have a short glance around the apartment and it was obvious the whole place was covered in mold. The bathroom light switch was messed up and more electrical appliances were dangling from the wall- God knows if that's a fire hazard or not.

Decided not to subject my pregnant wife to this, walked downstairs to check out. Didn't even get offered a "sorry to hear that" let alone a refund or even a discount for this terrible place.

Booked a room at the Holiday Inn Resort up the street, much better amenities and better hospitality.

Sadly I doubt I'll ever see that $180 back but our health and sanity are more important.

Another great meal with Gaidos. My wife and I always dine here when in Galveston. It is a very historic place with a long history and tradition of serving great food with a nice atmosphere. It is located on the seawall with a nice view of the gulf. My wife had the wagoo, and I had the redfish, both cooked excellent. The service was great. Lots of history of the place as you go into the restaurant. Be sure and take time to view. Opened in 1911 and still goung strong, This restaurant has stood the test of time, mother nature, and covid. Parking in the front is a bit of a challenge and learning curve. But there is additional parking to the left of the building in a lot, so be prepared for that option. A few negative reviews, but a 4.4 star out of 7000+ reviews. Doing well in this atmosphere. Keep it up, Gaidos.

our service was outstanding. i have been coming to gaido's for around three years probably 4-5 times a year i would say and i have ordered the salmon every single time and it was amazing. until tonight. my moms salmon came out raw, not once but twice. mine was cooked surprisingly, but it still tasted awful. the rice, parm tomatoes, and shrimp was great as always. i hate to write a review like this considering the great times i previously had here but i have been a server/ bartender in the restaurant industry for almost 4 years and i can tell you this is absolutely unacceptable. the first time it was completely raw. the manger should have gone and cooked it at this point, or at least CHECKED to make sure it was not raw again before hand delivering a once again raw salmon. i would say it was slightly less raw the second time but 100% was still raw. a salmon fillet should not be served raw ever especially considering the fact that it says grilled on the menu. if this was a sushi spot the circumstances would be different obviously but this is a seafood restaurant that is supposedly high end and island famous. after what i experienced tonight, it should not be. i will let the pictures speak for themselves. the manager comped our meal and drinks which was appreciated, but we would've rather had a cooked meal and not wasted our time. this was disgusting, and a free desert will not fix our appetite after this.

Back in Galveston & just had to come back to Gaido’s! This restaurant is, hands down, one of the best on the seawall & one of the best all around. The food is phenomenal, the atmosphere is pleasant & delightfully historic, & the staff hospitality is exceptional. Christian O. was a fantastic host & we thank him for yet another wonderful experience. Hubs & I shared the seafood bisque, seafood gumbo, garlic bread plate, & to top it off, the oysters combination, which were all quite amazing. Thanks again, for an experience well worth returning to again next time! 🐟🌊⚓️🙌🏻

Our go to place for seafood when visiting Galveston. Service is always exceptional and friendly and we feel pampered. Food is naturally excellent. This time a party of 2x on a Monday (I recommend making reservations now that they have been nationally recognized). They start you off with excellent break/oil. Any of the fish is great (we've never had any main course besides fish here). One of our favorites is the blackened tuna. Any side is also excellent. Plenty of parking in front and around the side/back.

Great Food & Service, but the Waiting Area Needs Work

Yesterday was my first visit to Gaido’s, and overall, it was a great experience! We walked in without a reservation and waited about 20 minutes for a table—which wasn’t too bad. However, the waiting area had a really unpleasant smell, so I stepped out to the corner gift shop while we waited.

Once seated, the dining area was clean and smelled just fine. Our server was fantastic—attentive, quick with our orders, and even gave us updates on how long the food would take, which I really appreciated. It took around 20 minutes for our meals to arrive, and the wait was worth it!

I ordered the charcoal-grilled salmon, and it was delicious—perfectly cooked with a great smoky flavor. The kid’s menu was a bit pricier than similar restaurants, but when my child’s fish fingers arrived, I had to try a bite—and wow! They were soft, rich, and full of flavor. Definitely not your average kids’ meal.

Despite the issue with the waiting area, everything else made up for it. The food, service, and atmosphere were all enjoyable. I’d definitely recommend Gaido’s and will be coming back for another meal soon!

The cocktails and food were delicious. Portions are plentiful. The seafood is absolutely fresh. The pasta and sauce were fresh made! The bread was soft and warm. The herbs in the dipping oil, perfection.

    Service was stellar.

The server even made a point of opening up the old members area to allow us to see the vintage dive helmets.
