    What makes it fun

Built in 1890, this beautifully restored mansion, formerly known as the Victorian Inn and Schaefer Haus, exudes elegance with its antique furnishings and late 1800s artwork. Nestled in Galveston's historic East End, it's a short stroll from The Strand's shops and restaurants, making it the perfect setting for your baecation. Indulge in a complimentary chef-made breakfast each morning, featuring French Press coffee brewed with organic beans flown in from Hawaii. Enjoy nightly turn-down service, and an optional nightcap before retiring to your plush bedding. For added romance, opt for packages that include flowers, chocolates, truffles, or champagne awaiting in your room upon arrival.

Two blocks from our home, we met with friends who were staying in this historic house overnight for a cruise.
Was invited to their free happy hour - beer and wine - we ordered pizza and enjoyed our visit in the sitting room.
Met at least 3 other couples who were there and going on the same cruise as us.
Our friends complained their room was too cold - their thermostat was in the adjacent occupied room! So they had a cold night.

Quaint Inn in the heart of Galveston. Perfect for someone taking a cruise out of Galveston. Can’t imagine you could find a more hospitable host than the owner Rick.

Unfortunately what could have been a great experience was not. Starting off, the mansion does have a lot of charm, and we were super excited to stay there. However, our personal experience was not great. Hopefully we are the exception and not the norm. The first issue, we had a leak in our ceiling the 1st night, dripping onto the floor. It was loud and we couldn't sleep. At around 4am, after trying to muffle the sound with towels, I alerted management. The lady was nice, and offered to comp our room. She did not specify for the night, or for the stay (2 nights) but it doesn't matter, because the compensation never came. The 2nd day we had the complimentary breakfast, which is good, but the dishes are not the cleanest, and i had something floating in my glass of milk. They said it was coffee grounds. Then, we were supposed to be shuttled to the dock for our cruise, a service we paid for in advance, but they forgot about us. To their credit, the scrambled and found us a ride and returned our $30 payment for that. I did receive an text from the owner a while on the cruise apologizing and offering a $60 return on our stay (this is much less than having the room comped) but that never happen either. He also said he would reimburse us for the Uber we had to take to get back to our car when we got home, but that didn't happen either. All in all, I wish them the best, but it was a rough way to start a honeymoon, and I would not stay there again.

A very centrally located hotel with friendly service, perfect for cruise ships. The terminal is within walking distance.

Second time staying here before our cruise. It's very quiet and relaxing. Everything is clean and the host is very professional and courteous. They allow extended parking for cruise travelers included in your stay and even offer a ride to the port for a small fee. Can't say enough great things about this piece of history!

Sooo.... its a unique over 100 year old home. I met a man from the Netherlands, thats cool. The breakfast staff was very cordial, as was Cathy. Very nice people.

A/C quit working for a few rooms, i called the number on the card, the number on the flyer, eventually the washington state number on the flyer by the front door. Took a few calls to get an answer, and finally someone ( no idea who it was) said someone would take a look. This was 8 PM in August, time to chill after a hot day. This is how i came to meet my Dutch friend, he said his didnt work either. We sat on the big porch waiting for a fix or a call. eventually we looked and noticed the mini split was running again. No call back to tell us if anything had changed. very strange. So we go to bed. Then roaches woke my wife up. its okay during the day but night sucks. Your mileage may vary but i sure wont go back. We have to fly out of Hobby airport so our last night ia a hotel closer to the airport. Much nicer. and theres someone to reach in case of a problem. imagine that.

My Husband found this B&B because our last name is also Schaefer and it was near the port where our cruise was out of, so we decided to stay here the night before we left. This place exceeded our expectations and turned us into avid B&Bers. It was the perfect temperature (end of February) so we were able to keep the windows and even the front doors open and feel the fresh air. It was so relaxing we even took a nap in the room after grabbing lunch at Hubcap Grill (great burger) and chatting with the bartender, Willie. The rooms were all so unique and decorated beautifully as was the lobby, dining area, social hour area and rest of the mansion. Our concierge, Aaron, was incredible. He gave us the history on the mansion and on Galveston and was a wonderful host at social hour where we got a complementary drink with the rest of the guests that were staying there as well and were all going on the same cruise as us.

Wonderful property and accommodating staff. The happy hour and breakfast were top notch. Location close to cruise port and transportation to the port was helpful. We were there when it was extremely windy and cold (wind chill in the 20’s and the room was a bit chilly but it’s a 100 year old mansion. I would recommend it to anyone visiting the area or taking a cruise.

Beautiful property. We stayed in the Theodore room, it was fantastic with huge doors and windows. The staff was friendly and accommodating. Stephanie at breakfast was great! Breakfast was delicious. They also let us park our car for free for the week of our cruise. 100% recommend.

We stayed here on a whim and we are hooked. The house, The Moody Suite, and the amenities offered are incredible - the bed was like sleeping on a cloud. The staff is great, especially Stephanie, who was a kind, warm and loving presence throughout our stay. Whatever they are paying her is not nearly enough - she treated us like family! The breakfast was delicious and we were so sad to leave. We can’t wait to stay here again!

Wonderful place to stay and relax. Awesome host who gave an interesting history lesson of the area at our get acquainted time. Thankful for the lower level room. My knees don't like too many stairs anymore. Thank you so much for the wonderful breakfast - don't forget to tip your hosts and servers!
